Installation of external Wifi Antenna

In 2010 Onboard Partners was asked to supply the APM terminal in Algeciras with WiFi. As a service to the Maersk vessels, Onboard Partners has now started a Roll-out of WiFi onboard the vessels in order for the crews to gain access to the new WiFi network called WiFi2U (Website is WiFi2U.NET). The new Vessel WiFi system consists of an external omni-directional antenna, mounted at mast top, a WiFi client mounted just below the antenna and an PoE cable down to the bridge where a Wireless Router has been configured for internet access. This installation ensures the vessel access to the new WiFi2U network in Algeciras, but also allows the vessel to connect to other Wireless networks around the world.

wifiinstallThomas Maersk was the first Maersk vessel to take advantages of the new WiFi Vessel system and Onboard Partners deployed the system onboard the vessel.

After installation the new WiFi vessel system allowed users to connect inside the vessel (before connection was only possible outdoor) and a connection speed of up to 4Mbps, a 100% succes.

The new Onboard Partners WiFi vessel system, using an external antenna, gives a better range (up to 10Nm), and enables the vessels to reach any WiFi network even at anchorage, outside the port.

For further information about the new WiFi Vessel system please contact Onboard Partners, for further information.
